The little Palace of Versailles in Bavaria
Enjoy a day in Upper Bavaria’s Chiemgau region. You reach Prien at lake Chiemsee in a luxury sedan or van after a one and a half hour drive from Munich and from there change onto a Chiemsee ferry which takes you to Herrenchiemsee island, which literally means mens island because of an old friary.
After an nice 20 minutes hike or a comfortable horse driven carriage ride you will arrive at Herrenchiemsee Castle. King Ludwig II of Bavaria wanted a castle which was exactly like the palace of Versailles in France. It was to be a “temple of glory” dedicated to King Ludwig XIV of France whom he admired infinitively.
After the Herrenchiemsee Castle Tour cross over to Frauenchiemsee island, the “womens island” with Germany’s oldest abbey of Benedictine nuns. The best way to get to know this charming island is by strolling through amazing flower gardens and romantic fishing cottages and by trying out some of the delicious home made cakes in one of the cafés along the shore. Back on the mainland your car will be waiting you.
If you wish we are happy to book a wonderful sunset lake view dinner or a gourmet experience at a Michelin starred restaurant with a mountian view for you.
